In boat building terminology \u201cfair\u201d is a term used to denote the evenness or regularity of a curve or line. The egg box frame – longitudinals, bulkheads, the transom and the stem all need to be \u201cfaired\u201d so that the strip planks can be laid to give a nice even, regular surface. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I use one of the strip planks to show where I need to plane. The stem looks quite awkward to get right, so I am leaving that to last. I first planed the engine beds level with the bulkheads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the rest of the firing, I decided to start at the transom and work forward. Below you can see the edge of the transom before fairing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
