Fairing

I have been working, honest. But quite a lot of work is required to show visible progress. This stage is all about providing a surface ready for painting. The fibreglass cloth needs to have a good layer of resin to protect it, and surface needs to be fair and smooth.

The first step was to cover the hull with fairing mix. That is epoxy resin with Microlight filler mixed in. This type of filler makes the resin easier to sand. The picture below shows the first coating.

Then, having coated the hull, you have to spend hours sanding most of the fairing mix off again. The sanding was done to some extent with an orbital electric sander, but mostly by hand with a sanding board. The picture below shows the sanded hull.

And a picture of the Starboard side of the hull with a second coat of fairing mix resin.

And I decided to put the first layer of fairing mix on the port side of the hull.

Back to sanding…..and more sanding…..
