Distractions, more sanding and a length of Fishing Line

It is quite a while since I updated my progress. I have made progress, although there have been some distractions. I decided that before putting my Shrimper back in the water, I should treat the spars to a lick of varnish (or really Cetol Filter 7 plus).

And then with Lagom waiting for me in the marina, some good sailing weather arrived. That is the Isle of Portland off the port bow.

But the main reason, I haven’t posted new pictures is that I put in quite a few days of sanding and the result does not show on photographs. However, I have declared the hull fair. Time to start adding some finishing coats.

The next job was to stick a length of fishing line to the side. Or, to make it sound technical, to add a permanent mark for the boot topping as suggested by Roger Dongray. The boot topping marks the edge of the antifouling and for the Gallant Gaffer is 40mm above the waterline.

As you can see below, I taped the fishing line to the hull using my last level to get the right line.

And below, the line is held in place by epoxy.

Next job is to give it all a final coat of epoxy.
